Background and Distinctions

KZKC is a low-power television station in Bakersfield, broadcasting locally on channel 42 (analog) as an affiliate of Azteca America.  It is a sister station to KERO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Bakersfield.

The station runs programming from the Azteca America network and identifies itself as “Azteca America Kern County.”  Bakersfield’s large agricultural business has led to a significant Spanish-speaking popoulation in Kern County, which is the nation’s 30th largest Hispanic television market based on 2010 census data.

The Azteca America Network is one of the fastest growing Hispanic networks in the United States.  Owned by Mexican broadcaster Grupo Azteca, the stations reach 89% of Hipanics in the U.S.  The network is an extension of Mexico’s popular TV Azteca, and is an alternative choice in television for Spanish-speaking families.
