Scholarship America Scholarship Program

Scripps Howard Foundation is proud to sponsor undergraduate scholarships through Scholarship America to identify, honor and financially assist children of Scripps employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

Scripps Howard Foundation Scholarship America awards will be up to $2,500 each. In 2012, $45,000 in scholarships were awarded to 18 children of Scripps employees.

The program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be dependent children, age 25 and under, of full-time Scripps employees who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date April 1, 2013. Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee's household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
  • Vocational-technical students are encouraged to apply. The number of vocational-technical scholarships granted will be in direct proportion to the number of qualified vocational-technical applications received.
  • Students who receive a Scripps Howard Foundation scholarship administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation are ineligible for a Scripps Howard Foundation Scholarship America award.

Scholarship awards

  • Individual student scholarships will be up to $2,500.

  • Awards are for undergraduate study only. Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

  • Financial need will be considered in the selection process. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

  • Recipients attending school for half of an academic year will receive one-half of an award.

  • Only one award is granted per family in any given year.

Application process

  • Interested students must complete an application form and mail it with a current, complete transcript of grades to Scholarship Management Services. Grade reports are not acceptable. Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Application forms are also available from your human resource representative or contact Vickie Martin, grants administrator, Scripps Howard Foundation at 1-800-888-3000 ext. 3034 or vickie.martin@scripps.com.
