Scripps Howard Nonprofit Internships

The Foundation's internship program for nonprofit organizations is an innovative model that makes the most of relationship-building and leveraged-resources. College undergraduate communication students' salaries are funded, enabling cash-strapped nonprofits to hire the young talent they need. The benefits reverberate: many of the students continue to volunteer or are hired by the nonprofits; they learn that nonprofits are a career option; and they learn the value of nonprofits and the benefits of philanthropy. Interns offer the nonprofits the ability to accomplish many goals in a cost-effective manner while mentoring a college student.

Since its inception in 2002, the program has aided 65 nonprofits in the Greater Cincinnati area with 227 student interns from the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University and Northern Kentucky University.

For information about the program, contact Patty Cottingham, vice president/administration, Scripps Howard Foundation at 513-977-3847 or patty.cottingham@scripps.com.
