Scripps Howard Program in Religion, Journalism
and the Spiritual Life
Columbia University

Professor Ari Goldman, former religion reporter for the New York Times, teaches the "Covering Religion" course at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism preparing his students to write about religion for a diverse readership. For more than a decade, the Scripps Howard Foundation has subsidized a 10-day class trip during spring break, in which students put their expertise to work by studying the workings of faith in a region where it is a developing story.

This year's course looked at the religions of the Holy Land, including the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sufi, Bahai and Druze faiths. Follow the class on their journey "Journey to Jerusalem" and for photos and stories of previous trips to India, Russia, Israel and the American South.
