Effective January 22, 2001, the News is published under the terms of a Joint Operating Agreement between Scripps and MediaNews Group, owner of The Denver Post. The News has won the General Excellence Award for large dailies in the annual Colorado Press Association competition for 10 straight years through 2005. Among its numerous national journalism awards are two Pulitzer Prizes for news photography, a Robert F. Kennedy Award, a National Headliner Award and three Sigma Delta Chi Awards. Under the JOA, the combined penetration of the News and Post (45% daily and 60% Sunday) leads the nation’s major metro dailies, and together the two papers have readership of more than 1.1 million daily and 1.4 million Sundays – the largest audience of any media organization in Colorado.
