The
Ventura County Star is a six-edition
newspaper serving the communities of
Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks,
Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura. Located
approximately 55 miles north of Los
Angeles, Ventura County covers an 1,800
square-mile region and has a population
of 791,000 residents. The Star is by
far the dominant newspaper in the county,
with twice the circulation of the Los
Angeles Times and almost five times
the circulation of the Los Angeles
Daily News. The Star also has one of
the highest household penetration rates
in Southern California, reaching 40
percent of its primary market area
as compared to most other newspapers.
In 1999, the newspaper inaugurated
the "The Star Series," a
highly acclaimed annual symposium featuring
leaders from journalism, business,
education and politics discussing various
topics about the media's role in society.
From its daring beginning in 1993, when
six separate newspapers were combined
into one, the Ventura County Star has
emerged as a true Southern California
success story. |
