Background and Distinctions

The Ventura County Star has been the undisputed local news leader in Ventura County since 1925.  Its award-winning website, VenturaCountyStar.com and award-winning daily newspaper provide comprehensive coverage of local news, sports, business, arts and entertainment, opinion with an emphasis on local.

The Star is at the forefront of creating new niche products that focus on the individual needs of the community.  These products include 805Moms.com, a web site designed specifically for Ventura County parents; Siglo21.com, a weekly Spanish-language publication; and Eldercare, an annual guide aimed at the needs of senior citizens and those families and friends who care for them. The Star's newest division, Star Printing xPress provides a one-stop source for Ventura County's commercial printing needs, even including other newspapers.

Every year The Star sponsors hundreds of non-profit organizations, events and activities in the community. It hosts some of the county's most important educational events including the Ventura County Spelling Bee, the Best of High School Journalism and Internet Awards, and the Star Scholar Awards which recently featured the keynote speaker, Buzz Aldrin.
