Scripps November revenues rose 14.3 percent

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose 14.3 percent in November to $108.3 million, compared to $94.7 million in November 1995.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month were $46.1 million, up 8.5 percent, and total newspaper revenues moved up 6.5 percent to $61.8 million.Revenues from the television station group increased 7.7 percent to $31.7 million. Political advertising in November totaled $3.4 million compared to $1.0 million in the year-ago month. Year-to-date political advertising was $19.5 million through November 1996 compared to $2.6 million through November 1995.In the entertainment division, revenues jumped to $14.7 million from $7.2 million last year, due to strong growth in all the division’s businesses.The E.W. Scripps Company operates nine television stations and daily newspapers in 16 markets.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
