Scripps January revenues rose 9.3 percent

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose 9.3 percent in January to $87.8 million, compared to $80.4 million in January 1996.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month were $39.1 million, up 12.3 percent, and total newspaper revenues moved up 11.7 percent to $55.3 million.In the entertainment division, revenues rose 14.6 percent to $10.5 million from $9.2 million last year, due to strong growth in all the division’s businesses.Revenues from the television station group increased 1.6 percent to $22.1 million.The E.W. Scripps Company operates nine television stations and daily newspapers in 16 markets.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
