Scripps April Revenues Rose 11.6 Percent

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose 11.6 percent in April to $100 million, compared to $89.6 million in April 1996.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month were $43.2 million, up 16.2 percent, and total newspaper revenues moved up 13.1 percent to $60.2 million.Revenues from the television station group increased 3.9 percent to $29 million. In the entertainment division, revenues rose 28 percent to $10.9 million from $8.5 million last year, due to strong growth in all the division’s businesses.The E.W. Scripps Company operates nine television stations and daily newspapers in 16 markets.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
