Swinehart promoted to VP/GM of KSHB-TV in Kansas City

CINCINNATI, Ohio – James D. Swinehart today was named vice president and general manager of television station KSHB Channel 41, the NBC affiliate in Kansas City. Swinehart has served as KSHB station manager for the past two years and has played an active role in overall management of the station.He replaces Charlotte Moore English, who has been named vice president of programming development for The E. W. Scripps Company’s station division, parent of KSHB.Swinehart came to KSHB following a stint as news director of WBIR, the dominant news station in Knoxville, Tenn. Previous to that, he had served as director of client services at Frank N. Magid Associates, a large news consulting firm based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Earlier in his career, Swinehart held various news management positions with KABC in Los Angeles and WKBW in Buffalo, NY. “In his two years at KSHB, Jim has had an opportunity to develop an appreciation for the Kansas City market and that, combined with his solid news background, makes him well qualified to lead the station in the very competitive environment it faces,” said James M. Hart, senior vice president for the Scripps broadcast station group.”There are some exciting challenges and opportunities ahead for KSHB. I look forward to working with our excellent management team to develop the station as a dynamic, positive contributor to our community,” said Swinehart.Swinehart and his wife, Joyce, have two children, David and AnaLisa, and live in Overland Park, Kan.Scripps owns nine television stations; daily newspapers in 16 markets; two television production companies; a licensor and syndicator of news features and comics; and HGTV, a 24-hour cable television channel.
