Fee named vice president, general manager of WCPO

CINCINNATI, Ohio – William S. Fee has been named vice president and general manager of television station WCPO in Cincinnati, the ABC-affiliated station owned and operated by The E.W. Scripps Company.Fee, who in December was named station manager at WCPO, replaces J.B. Chase who today announced his retirement. Chase has been general manager of the station since 1990 and vice president and general manager since 1991.“We acknowledged Bill’s strong leadership credentials just last month when we promoted him to station manager,” said James M. Hart, senior vice president/television group for Scripps. “His succession to the top job at the station is the logical next step. We have every confidence in Bill’s ability to successfully guide WCPO forward into the future.”Fee, a Cincinnati native, first joined WCPO in 1978 as director of community affairs. In 1981, he moved into sales, working as an account executive until he left WCPO in 1987 to become sales manager for WMC-TV in Memphis.He returned to Cincinnati in 1993 to become local sales manager for WLWT-TV. He rejoined WCPO in 1997 as the station’s national sales manager.Before starting his career in broadcasting, Fee was director of cultural events at the University of Cincinnati from 1973 to 1978.A Vietnam veteran, Fee has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in German literature and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, all from the University of Cincinnati. The E.W. Scripps Company operates 19 daily newspapers; nine network-affiliated television stations; two TV networks, Home & Garden Television and the Food Network; a TV programmer, Scripps Productions; United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; the Scripps Howard News Service; and publishes independent Yellow Pages directories.
