Scripps to discuss business strategy at Salomon Smith Barney conference

CINCINNATI – Senior managers of The E.W. Scripps Company will discuss the company’s business strategy Tuesday, Jan. 9, during Salomon Smith Barney’s Global Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.The Scripps presentation is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (7:45 a.m. Mountain Standard Time) and will be Web cast live on the company’s Web site at www.scripps.com. The conference is being held at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess hotel and resort. An audio archive will be available on the Scripps Web site within 24 hours after the presentation.Presenting for Scripps will be Kenneth W. Lowe, president and chief executive officer, and Richard A. Boehne, executive vice president. Lowe will provide a strategic overview and will discuss the company’s fastest growing business segment, Scripps Networks. Boehne will provide an overview of the company’s newspaper, broadcast television and interactive media businesses.The E.W. Scripps Company is a diverse media concern with interests in newspaper publishing, broadcast television, cable television networks and interactive media. Scripps operates 21 daily newspapers, 10 broadcast TV stations and three cable television networks, with plans to launch a fourth.Scripps cable television network brands include Home & Garden Television, Food Network, Do It Yourself and Fine Living, due to launch in the second half of 2001.The company also operates Scripps Howard News Service, United Media, the worldwide licensing and syndication home of PEANUTS and DILBERT, and 31 Web sites, including hgtv.com, foodtv.com, diynet.com and comics.com.
