Sept. 21, 2006

CINCINNATI – The E. W. Scripps Company, seeking to further expand the growing consumer awareness of Shopzilla and uSwitch, has appointed one of its talented television executives to help coordinate marketing and promotions initiatives within the company’s interactive media division.
Adam Symson, 31, has been named director of content and marketing for the Scripps interactive media division, effective immediately. He previously was director of news strategy and operations for the Scripps Television Station Group.
In his new role, Symson will assist the company’s interactive businesses in their implementation of branding strategies as well as act as a liaison between the interactive media division and other Scripps media properties to help with coordinated branding efforts.
“Our goal is to capture the value that accrues to leading interactive brands with superior consumer awareness,” said Tim Peterman, senior vice president of interactive media for Scripps. “We’ll be looking to Adam to help our brands build on the successes they’ve achieved to date.”
Shopzilla, America’s leading online search and price comparison service for products, was acquired by Scripps in June 2005. In March of this year, Scripps acquired uSwitch, the U.K.’s leading search, price comparison and switching Web site for essential home services. The company’s interactive media division is comprised of the two businesses.
Symson was named to the new interactive media position after serving several years in a corporate role advising Scripps television stations on news strategy, investigative reports and operations. He was named the station group’s director of news strategy and operations in September 2005, and prior to that was director of investigations and special projects.
Symson has also served as executive producer of investigations and special projects for KNXV -TV, the Scripps-owned ABC affiliate in Phoenix. He’s worked as an investigative producer for two CBS-owned stations, WBBM-TV in Chicago and KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, and specialized in breaking news and political coverage while working as an independent producer for CBS News and NBC News.
Symson has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of California, Los Angeles.
