CINCINNATI – Lana Durban Scott, a broadcast journalist with 11 years of experience producing news and sports programming, has been named director of news strategy and operations for the nine network-affiliated television stations owned by The E. W. Scripps Company, effective immediately.

Scott, 34, joins the Scripps Television Station Group’s corporate management team from WEWS, the Scripps-owned ABC affiliate in Cleveland. She has served as special projects executive producer at WEWS since 2005.

In her new role, Scott will work closely with the station group’s news departments and general mangers in developing plans for special and investigative reports. She also will assist the Scripps stations in sharing editorial resources and best practices.

“Lana brings a solid background in broadcast journalism to this important position for Scripps,” said Bill Peterson, senior vice president for the Scripps Television Station Group. “She’s been ably overseeing consumer, health, investigative and special reports in Cleveland for two years now. Going forward, we’ll be looking to her to help all of our stations maintain the highest journalistic standards while building the largest audiences.”

Durban joined WEWS in 1993, starting on the assignment desk while still a student at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. She soon moved to sports, holding positions of increasing responsibility before being named the station’s sports director in 1999.

She joined the daily news operation at WEWS in 2001 as senior executive producer and four years later was named special projects executive producer.

Durban has a bachelor’s degree in communications from John Carroll.
