NEWSCHANNEL 5 WINS NOON NEWS; GROWS VIEWERSHIP AT 6PM AND 11PM

WEWS NewsChannel 5 once again won the Noon News and grew its share of audience in the signature 6PM and 11PM time periods, according to the final results of Nielsen Media Research’s May ratings period (4/26/07 – 5/23/07).  In May, NewsChannel 5 at 11 featured Ted Henry, Lee Jordan, Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson, and Sports anchor/reporter Sue Ann Robak.  NewsChannel 5 at Noon, Cleveland’s premiere hour-long midday news and talk formatted program, finished first in its time period for the second consecutive rating period.NewsChannel 5’s News Director Steve Hyvonen comments on the station’s growth.  “I think much of our success is due to our investigative team.  When you watch stories from Chief Investigator Duane Pohlman, Investigator Ron Regan, Consumer Specialist Angie Lau, and Troubleshooter Joe Pagonakis, you can see how NewsChannel 5 really is On Your Side,” explains Hyvonen.  “We added Pagonakis as our Troubleshooter in late April, and he’s getting results for viewers.  We’re receiving very positive feedback.”“We continue to take pride in the fact that Cleveland viewers want the high quality, relevant journalism we deliver in each and every newscast,” adds John Butte, NewsChannel 5’s Vice-President & General Manager.WEWS NewsChannel 5 gained viewers in the following newscasts compared to May 2006 (all ratings and shares reflect Nielsen Households):·        NewsChannel 5 at Noon (12-1PM)#1 with a 4 rating, 16 share.  Up 4% in share compared to May 2006. ·        NewsChannel 5 at 6 (66:30PM)6 rating, 12 share.  Up 2% in share compared to May 2006.·        NewsChannel 5 at 11PM (Sun–Fri) 7 rating, 14 share.  Up 2% in share compared to May 2006. WEWS’ growth extends well beyond these newscasts, with several of its syndicated and Network  programs realizing the following audience gains:·        Live!  With Regis & Kelly (9-10AM) – 3 rating, 13 shareUp 2% in rating and 8% in share compared to May 2006.·        Martha (10-11AM)2 rating, 9 share.  Up 11% in share compared to February 2007.·        The View (11-12PM)3 rating, 12 share.  Up 7% in share compared to February 2007.·        Daytime (1-4PM)3 rating, 9 share.  All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital combined were up 4% in share compared to February 2007 and 5% in share compared to May 2006.·        Wheel of Fortune (7-7:30PM)#1 with a 7 rating, 14 share.  Up 8% in rating and 16% in share compared to May 2006.·        Jeopardy (7:30-8PM)#1 with a 8 rating, 16 share.  Up 13% in rating and 21% in share compared to May 2006.·        ABC’s Nightline (11:30PM-12AM)3 rating, 8 share.  Up 6% in rating and 9% in share compared to May 2006. ·        Jimmy Kimmel Live (12AM–1PM) – 2 rating, 5 shareUp 1% in rating compared to May 2006.·        ABCo       Has 4 out of the top 10 shows among A25-54 – Grey’s Anatomy (#3), Desperate Housewives (#6), Lost (#7), Dancing With The Stars (#8, Tuesday)o       Only Network to be up in A18-49 (3.6 rating / 3% increase) and A25-54 (4.2 rating / 5% increase) compared to May 2006o       #1 position in A18-49 on 4 out of the 7 nights of the week (Mon/Thurs/Sat/Sun)
