Koors named VP of audit and compliance

Feb. 3, 2010

Mark L. Koors, a financial executive who first joined The E.W. Scripps Company more than two decades ago, has been promoted to vice president of audit and compliance, effective immediately.

Koors, 46, will report to Bill Appleton, the company’s senior vice president and general counsel. He succeeds Mike Hales, who recently was named vice president of finance and administration for the company’s newspaper division.

Taking over the audit and compliance function is a homecoming of sorts for Koors. He started at Scripps in 1988 as an internal auditor, and was the audit manager from 1990 to 1992.

He then served two years as the accounting manager for the cable division before those operations were sold to Comcast. Koors spent the next 14 years in the company’s Financial Service Center, the last nine of which as its director.

Since the summer of 2008, he has been the director of treasury management.

A certified public accountant who worked was an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining Scripps, Koors is a member of the Association of Financial Professionals and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
