Scripps April revenues rose to $89.6 million

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose slightly in April to $89.6 million, compared to $89.0 million in April 1995.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month fell 9 percent year-over-year, to $37.2 million. Total newspaper revenues slipped 6.5 percent to $53.2 million. There was one less Saturday and one less Sunday in April 1996 than in April 1995.Revenues from the television station group moved up 11 percent to $27.9 million. Political advertising in April totaled $0.6 million compared to $0.1 milion in the year-ago month.In the entertainment division, revenues rose 23 percent to $8.5 million.The E.W. Scripps Company operates nine television stations and daily newspapers in 16 markets.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
