Scripps February revenues increased 6.4 percent

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose 6.4 percent in February to $80.4 million, compared to $75.6 million in February 1995.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month rose 5.4 percent year-over-year, to $36.2 million. Total newspaper revenues moved up 5.7 percent to $51 million.Revenues from the television station group moved up 7.9 percent to $22 million. Political advertising in February totaled $0.5 million compared to zero in the year-ago month.In the entertainment division, revenues rose 6.9 percent to $7.4 million.The E.W. Scripps Company operates 15 daily newspapers, nine television stations and cable systems in 10 states.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
