WCPO Sports Anchor takes new role

May 16, 2013

Longtime WCPO Sports Anchor Dennis Janson will take a new role as a columnist for the station’s market-leading platforms beginning this summer.

Janson will provide his unique perspective on the news and issues impacting Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. He will be the only columnist in the Cincinnati market to appear on the air and online.

“A chance to be part of the cutting-edge efforts being exerted on our digital platforms is particularly intriguing,” said Janson.

“Dennis has tremendous knowledge of the area, is well connected and can get people thinking,” said Jeff Brogan, WCPO Vice President and General Manager.  “The days of local media having columnists are nearly extinct, and we feel Dennis is positioned to fill that void by bringing insight and context to our users and viewers.”

Janson has been working as a Cincinnati broadcaster for 45 years, He will leave his day-to-day sports anchoring and reporting on May 22.  Starting today, well-wishes from long-time friends Nick Clooney, Marty Brennaman, Johnny Bench, Bob Castellini, Bill Cunningham, Bob Huggins and other local and national celebrities are airing in celebration of Janson’s 29 years in sports at WCPO.

Janson, a 1968 Elder High School graduate, attended the University of Cincinnati and last May was inducted into its journalism program’s Hall of Fame.
