Apple TV names Newsy a Best of 2015 app

Dec. 14, 2015 By Rebecca McCarter

CINCINNATI– Apple has named Newsy, the over-the-top video news service, to its Apple TV Best of 2015 list. Apple’s annual list showcases the year’s most innovative apps and games and celebrates the amazing app experiences that developers have created for the App Store on Apple TV.

Newsy is the fast-growing millennial-focused journalism enterprise that brings perspective and analysis to reporting on world and national news, including politics, entertainment, science and technology. Newsy is a wholly owned subsidiary of The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP).

The Newsy app for Apple TV features a live stream of the day’s top news as well as video on demand, where users can choose the news stories that most interest them.

“Apple’s recognition of Newsy is a huge honor for our team,” said Blake Sabatinelli, general manager of Newsy. “With more than 2,500 apps for Apple TV in the App Store — and more being released every day — we’re thrilled that consumers are connecting with Newsy’s fresh take on the day’s top stories and our app’s streamlined news delivery.”

The Apple recognition is the latest in a string of major announcements from Newsy, which in just three months has launched on multiple over-the-top platforms, including Watchable from Comcast, Pluto TV and Apple TV. Apple also named Newsy a Best New App upon the launch of the new Apple TV in October and showcased Newsy as a best-in-class app at its recent developer conferences.
