Scripps revenues rose 7.9 percent in May

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The E.W. Scripps Company said today that its consolidated revenues rose 7.9 percent in May to $95.4 million, compared to $88.4 million in May 1995.Newspaper advertising revenues for the month moved up 7 percent year-over-year, to $41.8 million. Total newspaper revenues increased 5.4 percent to $56.7 million. Revenues from the television station group jumped 9.7 percent to $30.2 million. Political advertising in May totaled $0.4 million compared to $0.2 million in the year-ago month.In the entertainment division, revenues rose 19.5 percent to $8.4 million.The E.W. Scripps Company operates nine television stations and daily newspapers in 16 markets.Through its entertainment division, Scripps operates United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics; Scripps Howard Productions, a producer of television programming; Cinetel Productions, a leading producer of programs for the cable networks; and Home & Garden Television, a 24-hour cable network.
